The New Moon Ceremony was very important to the religious, social and economical life
of the Cherokee people. It was during this ceremony that the people prayed to the Creator for helping them to live through
the winter and ask his help with the crops they were getting reading to plant so the tribe would have food for the next
winter. To the Cherokee people the Creator was not just to be worshiped on Sunday but included into everything concerning
the life of the Cherokees. The Sacred Fire was extinguished and relit, showing the people's faith in the Creator and the
manifestation of the Creator's presence among the Cherokee "Real People". The New Moon Ceremony was and should still
be a great celebration and sacred time for all the Cherokees.
